The NASA FEWS NET (Family Early Warning Systems Network) Land Data Assimilation System (FLDAS) team combines models and satellite data (using the LIS system) to monitor soil moisture in Eastern Africa.

The soil moisture forecasts are made using a custom instance of the NASA Hydrological Forecast and Analysis System (NHyFAS), termed FLDAS-Forecast.
